My little tips for treating Conjunctivitis in children and adults.

Young or old, we are all affected by conjunctivitis.

This inflammation of the eye can have several different origins, but it is easily treated by natural means.

Conjunctivitis can be caused by a virus, bacteria, or even an allergy.

The symptoms to watch out for are: redness, eye irritation, burning sensations and sometimes purulent-looking discharge.

natural and economical tips to treat conjunctivitis small and large

1. We prevent the spread of conjunctivitis

You do not always know whether your conjunctivitis or that of your children is of viral origin or not. Precautions must therefore be taken from the outset to prevent contagion.

- Keep your hands clean at all times. It happens of course that you touch your inflamed eyes and you could pass the virus on to those close to you.

- Treat your children by avoiding touching their eyes directly, or wear thin gloves.

- Change your pillowcases every 2 days to avoid giving yourself the virus again.

- Do not lend your cosmetics, do not use those of your girlfriends.

2. We concoct natural compresses

For adults and children alike (adults, babies and infants), compresses can dramatically relieve conjunctivitis, without any danger.

- Chamomile compresses : this plant has natural anti-inflammatory properties. It will help your eyes to deflate and soothe your burning sensations.

- Black tea compresses : if you prefer black tea for your compresses, no problem because it has the same benefits as chamomile.

Infuse chamomile or black tea and let cool. Then take gauze or a cotton pad to remove makeup, which you soak generously. Apply to the eye from the outside to the inside (so as not to spread the inflammation).

Repeat this gesture as often as you like during the day.

3. Complete with clay poultices

Another natural treatment: clay. Clay is anti-inflammatory and soothing.

It facilitates all healings naturally.

- Put clay on gauze.

- Then apply directly to the closed eye.

You can perform this gesture 1 to 2 times per day, in addition to compresses.

4. Eye baths are performed

Make eye baths with flowers

In addition to or instead of compresses, we can perform eye baths.

It may be easier for an adult, but again there is no danger for children. The effects will be the same, you just have to choose the method you prefer.

- Choose the plant you have on hand: chamomile, calendula flowers, lavender hydrosol or parsley. These plants all have the advantage of being astringent and decongestant.

- Infuse and let cool or cool.

- Take a generous bath, eye open.

You can repeat this gesture as many times as you want during the day.

5. We consume vitamins and zinc

- Vitamin A: this vitamin is involved in pigment synthesis of the eye. People who do not consume enough are naturally more likely to have conjunctivitis.

You will find it in carrots, spinach, sweet potatoes, peppers, or even in oils and fish.

- Vitamin C : because it is useful in the growth of collagen, which naturally maintains connective tissue, it will be perfect for taking care of your eyes.

You will find it in citrus and exotic fruits, parsley, chives or even broccoli and Brussels sprouts.

- Zinc : zinc deficiency can cause stunted growth, but also decreased immune defense as well as eye and skin damage. It is a trace element that must be remembered to consume on a daily basis.

You will find it in oysters, veal or pork liver, wholemeal bread, egg yolk or even milk and dried fruits.

When we know that eye drops can cost at least 10 € for a few days of treatment, we can only look at these natural solutions, with plants that we have on hand, and which are safe even for the little ones.
