5 Simple and Effective Tips To Repair A Broken Zipper.

Need to repair a zipper temporarily before you can change it?

Sometimes the zipper gets stuck. Sometimes it is the zipper that is broken or the teeth that no longer hook.

Here are 5 simple (you don't have to be a great handyman) but effective tips to repair a zipper.

locked zipper

1. If the closure blocks

Is your zipper difficult to open or close? Or does it block outright? The solution is a pencil.

The pencil contains graphite which loosens the zippers. If you "color" your zipper, it will come loose.

2. If the pull tab is broken

If the zipper is broken, you can use a paper clip to easily replace it. You can still use a safety pin.

3. The shuttle no longer hangs

If the shuttle no longer jams, your zipper will spend its time coming back down. We will not stop telling you "the little bird will come out" all day long! So, quickly grab your key ring and remove a ring!

4. If the teeth no longer engage

Notice that the teeth of your zipper no longer hook together? See if they are straight. Straighten them delicately, with a toothpick for example.

Once they are straightened you should be able to close your zipper. If it still does not close, the zipper must be changed.

5. If the shuttle is pulled out of the zipper

Sometimes the shuttle comes straight out of the zipper. There is a trick to put it back in its place:

- place your shuttle perpendicular to the teeth of the zipper,

- slide the outer part of the shuttle between 2 teeth and force it to enter one,

- once the first tooth has been retracted, turn to put the shuttle back in the right direction,

- slowly go upwards in order to hook a few other teeth,

- put straight the teeth which moved when you forced,

- lower the shuttle back to the base by forcing it a little.

If the trick doesn't work, it's because the teeth are too damaged or the shuttle is broken. In this case, you need to change the zipper.
