Recurrent ear infections: All My Little Tips to Relieve and Avoid Them.
Some children get ear infections systematically after each cold or sore throat. Adults are not immune either.
The operation is not always possible and these inflammations are very painful.
To avoid taking antibiotics all the time, there are little natural tips to treat them and avoid them as much as possible.
What is an ear infection?
Otitis is inflammation of the ear, most often due to a bacterial infection. It often follows a persistent cold or poorly treated nasopharyngitis. It can be common or appear very easily if the immune system is weakened.
Children suffer most from ear infections. Antibiotic treatments are often prescribed in order to relieve them as quickly as possible, but taking antibiotics too often is not advised.
The onion method
This little trick was discovered by the grandmothers of our grandmothers, who understood that onions had natural anti-bacterial effects.
Here's how to relieve inflammation:
1. Cut the equivalent of 2 teaspoons of small pieces of onions.
2. Sweat them in a pan, without fat, until the vapors sting the eyes.
3. Place them in a very fine fabric, such as a handkerchief for example, and let them cool.
4. Apply this poultice for a few minutes on the inflamed ear.
The onion's antimicrobial vapor will gently seep into the ear and do its work. You can repeat this gesture 3 times a day.
Propolis
Do you know propolis? It is a plant resin that bees collect.
They use it as an anti-infective mortar to sanitize their hive. We have been harvesting it for a long time for its therapeutic properties.
This resin has antiseptic, anti-bacterial and healing properties. It fights germs in a spectacular way. It contains many vitamins, zinc and magnesium, in total no less than 300 active ingredients acting to strengthen our immune system.
You will find propolis in several forms: in spray, syrup, drops, granules, capsules or lozenges, depending on your preferences and the age of your children. It can be consumed without danger throughout the day.
It can be bought in pharmacies, drugstores and also onInternet. Depending on the formula chosen, a treatment lasting a few days will cost you between € 4 and € 7.
You can find some here.
Gargles
For older children, it is possible to supplement these remedies with gargles made from lemon juice and thyme, fir or mountain honey, to be done twice a day.
It is possible to add to this gargle, or replace it, with grapefruit seed extract diluted in lukewarm water. Grapefruit seed extract is indeed antibacterial.
Infusions
For those who like herbal teas, the plants that will best relieve ear infections will be savory, lime (which, in addition, lowers fever), fennel, chamomile or even rosemary.
All these infusions can be found very easily in organic stores, on the Internet and even in supermarkets. You can find some here.
Food advice
As soon as the symptoms of flu or thick colds, nasopharyngitis appear which, for you, will always give you an ear infection thereafter, dietary precautions can be taken to avoid it.
- Stop cow's milk: indeed, these dairy products tire the liver and contain little iron. However, iron is very important to fight against bacterial attacks and strengthen the immune system.
In addition, dairy products tend to thicken mucous membrane secretions and therefore prevent their proper evacuation.
Replace cow's milk products with soy milk products and plenty of water.
- Take vitamins, iron and natural antibiotics: you will find all this in seasonal fruits and vegetables, meat, almonds, lentils or even garlic.
