What you need

A long knife and a watermelon cut in half on a wooden board.

- 1 beautiful ripe watermelon

- 1 long and sharp knife

- 1 cutting board or 1 rimmed baking sheet

How to do

2. Cut the watermelon in half, in length.

3. Cut each half in 2, so as to obtain 4 neighborhoods watermelon, as in the photo above.

4. Put one of the quarters on a rimmed baking sheet and take a long, sharp knife.

5. Start cutting vertical slices of 3 cm thick, without pushing the blade completely into the skin of the watermelon.

6. Continue to cut vertical slices along the entire length of the quarter, at regular intervals.

8. At this point, I like to put the watermelon in front of me and rotate 90º. It is not obligatory, but this way it is even easier to cut.

9. Now start to cut the watermelon into horizontal slices, and always 3 cm thick.

10. Did you get the point? Keep cutting layers of horizontal slices, so as to obtain a "grid" of small squares.

11. When cut into horizontal slices, the first side of the watermelon should look like the one on the photo above.

12. Now spin the watermelon wedge and start to cut the opposite side in horizontal slices 3 cm thick.

13. Keep cutting horizontal slices in the watermelon, from top to bottom.

14. Now your watermelon has the same pattern on both sides: a grid of small squares.

15. Once you have cut all the small squares, pass the blade of the knife between skin and flesh.

16. Continue to pass the blade of the knife over the white part of the flesh, so as to obtain a maximum of cubes.

17. We are almost there !

18. There you go, it's over! The watermelon cubes come off on their own. Fastoche! Repeat the above steps to cut out the remaining wedges from your watermelon.
