Drinking Snow During Winter: Good or Bad Idea?
It's one of the little pleasures when you go to the snow!
Who hasn't already tried to eat snow?
To cool off, to test, to laugh, whatever ... But did you know that you should avoid at all costs?
Unless you are lost in the mountains or decided to climb the Himalayas. Here's why :
Why not drink pure snow?
1. Our grandmothers know it well, drinking snow gives you diarrhea.
The temperature difference between body heat and snow disrupts our internal system and the week of skiing passes us right under our noses.
2. In addition, the cold parasitizes entirely our internal heat. More than stomach problems, you risk a hypothermic attack.
In addition, the snow brings very demineralized water. It certainly won't rehydrate you.
3. Finally, the risk of bacteria, such as salmonellosis, exists. Pay attention, especially to children.
To convince them, remind them that snow forms around dust particles. It's radical!
Drink snow while minimizing the risks:
1. If you have no other hydrating choice other than snow, you will need to make it liquid by heating and boiling.
The must is to melt clean snow, without waste, with a stove at over 80 °. It is important that the snow water is boiled.
2. To remineralize the snow, add a pinch of salt, soup, tea or others.
Stirring the melted snow well also helps to aerate it and thus makes it more digestible.
