Christmas Menu: a Festive and Cheap Complete Meal!
In a few days, we are already celebrating Christmas ...
Magical moments where young and old alike meet around a beautiful family table.
I like to put all the magic of Christmas on my plates with my festive and inexpensive menu!
Here is a starter, a main course and a dessert to delight your guests without breaking the bank.
1. The salmon terrine with dill makes its debut
Ingredients for 6 people
- 250 g of fresh salmon
- 4 eggs
- 20 cl of heavy cream
- 1 lemon
- 20 g of dill
- Salt and pepper
Preperation
1. I preheat the oven to 180 °.
2. In a salad bowl, I put the diced fresh salmon, egg whites, lemon juice, dill and salt.
3. I mix everything.
4. I fold in the crème fraîche and mix.
5. I pour the preparation into a cake tin that I have previously buttered.
6. I bake for 45 minutes.
7. I serve my terrine warm or cold.
2. The leg of lamb with baked apples will be the guest of honor
Ingredients for 6 people
- 1 leg of lamb of 1.5 kg
- 8 large potatoes
- 5 cloves of garlic
- A few sprigs of thyme
- 120 g of butter
- Salt and pepper
Preperation
1. I preheat the oven to 180 °.
2. I wash, peel and cut the potatoes into slices.
3. I place them in equal layers at the bottom of my dish and sprinkle them with a few shavings of butter.
4. I prick the meat with the help of a knife and put pieces of peeled garlic in the cuts.
5. I coat the leg with the rest of the butter.
6. I salt and pepper.
7. I place it on the potatoes and put the dish in the oven.
8. I let cook 40 min for a rosy cooking.
9. Once cooked, I let the leg rest for 10 min under a sheet of aluminum foil before cutting it.
10. I serve with the deliciously flavored lamb potatoes.
3. No pitfall with the chocolate log
Ingredients for 6 people
- 6 eggs
- 1 glass of powdered sugar
- 1 glass of flour
- 1 sachet of yeast of 11 g
- 250 g of dark chocolate
- 100 g of butter
Preperation
1. I preheat the oven to 180 °.
2. I separate the whites from the egg yolks.
3. I beat the egg yolks with the sugar and 3 tablespoons of lukewarm water to create a foam.
4. I add the flour and the sachet of baking powder.
5. I mix well to get a lump free dough.
6. I whisk the egg whites to snow and incorporate them into the dough.
7. In a long, flat pan (pizza pan style), I roll out the dough to 1 cm thick and bake for 10 min.
8. I take the preparation out of the oven, remove it and place it on a damp towel.
9. I roll it up and let it cool for a few minutes.
10. I break the chocolate and melt it into small pieces in a double boiler with the butter.
11. I unroll the cake and spread ¾ of the chocolate dough over its entire surface.
12. I roll up the preparation again.
13. I pour the rest of the chocolate on top and with a fork I make small designs on top.
14. I put the log in the fridge so that it cools.
Bonus tip
If Christmas is a family celebration, there is no question that the preparation of the meal becomes a chore!
If the Chef is me, I engage all the little hands in the kitchen: the more hands there are, the faster the meal will be ready!
Budget
Starter: salmon terrine with dill
- 250 g of fresh salmon: € 4.05
- 4 eggs: € 1
- 20 cl of heavy cream: € 1
- 1 lemon: around 100 g at € 3.60 per kilo, i.e. € 0.36
- 20 g of dill: € 1.20
That is € 7.61 for my entry or 1.26 € per person.
Main course: leg of lamb with baked potatoes
- 1 leg of lamb of 1.5 kg: € 14.96 at my butcher's
- 8 large potatoes: € 2
That is € 16.96 for my dish or € 2.82 per person.
Dessert: chocolate log
- 6 eggs: € 1.50
- 1 glass of flour, or about 100 g: € 0.10
- 1 sachet of yeast of 11 g: € 0.14
- 250 g of dark chocolate: € 2.60
That is € 4.34 for my dessert or 0.72 € per person.
