How to fix a drawing in charcoal or pastel without fixative?

Do you draw from time to time or on a regular basis?

If you are using volatile materials, you will definitely need hairspray.

Yes, but a fixing product costs between 7 and 20 €! Admit it's a bit expensive ...

I am therefore offering you a much cheaper method, which you may be able to achieve with what you already have at home.

Just use a little hairspray.

spray the drawing with hairspray to fix it

How to do

1. Place yourself in a ventilated room so that the strong odors of this homemade hairspray do not bother you.

2. Stand 15 cm from your drawing.

3. Spray the lacquer on your drawing, being careful not to insist too much on the same areas each time (so as not to make any streaks).

Results

And there you have it, your drawing is now well protected by your homemade hairspray :-)

If, like me, you already have them at home, so much the better! Otherwise, it costs barely 4 € and it's multi-use in addition: hair, drawings, tights ...

For me who draws a lot in charcoal, it was a relief to discover this trick, because the hairspray is really too expensive!

Bonus tip

No need to go and ruin yourself anymore, you can do your works quietly. And so as not to make them dirty with a badly cleaned eraser, here is another tip.

Your turn...
