Should we practice the Lafay Method?

The Lafay method is a weight training method. Here is my opinion as a former practitioner of the method and a doctor in sports science.

Push-ups, pull-ups, crunches, flexions on one leg ... The Lafay method has known for ten years a growing success with people aged 14 to 40, both men and women. It is deserved, although some aspects of the method are in my opinion open to criticism. Let's go over the pluses and minuses of the method.

A "rather" economical method :-)

Important thing which justifies that one speaks about it on comment-economiser.fr, the Lafay method does not require that we enroll in a fitness room, nor that one gets a whole panoply of expensive equipment.

However, although the method is said to be "without material", it still requires some purchases, or at least some arrangements of its furniture: pull-up bar, 19 € 73 at Amazon, sturdy chairs, convenient to put your feet on. .

Quite repetitive :-(

As the method is based on a limited number of levels, a minimum performance is necessary to move up to the next level. So sometimes it is necessary to stay several months in the same series of exercises. This can be frustrating at times, and some people become demotivated until they stop using the method altogether.

Allows you to develop your feelings, but superficially: - |

The Lafay method, because it requires (almost) no equipment, allow of focus on its execution, and no longer on the weight to be put in motion. This method therefore differs from others which mainly consist of lifting increasingly heavier loads.

Too bad the author does not put more emphasis on this quality of execution which is only approached superficially, rather than looking for an ever higher number of repetitions.

A harmonious development, but neglecting the lower back: - |

With the Lafay method, men and women alike work all aspects of their physical condition (strength, resistance, endurance, flexibility)at the same time as their different muscles (calves, thighs, abdominal strap, bust and arms).

I regret that the lower back training comes so late in the method. In my opinion, it is a primordial muscle which is the basis of all postures and all movements.

Complete exercises :-)

Olivier Lafay had the good idea to select exercises that require large muscle groups. These "polyarticular" movements (requiring several joints) develop a harmonious physique and allow faster progress.

It is effective :-D

Last remark, and not the least: the Lafay method is effective. We even observe in some practitioners phenomenal physical transformations.

However, not everyone's goal is to become Ulk. No problem: the method is adaptable to our goals (muscle gain, fat loss, search for athletic performance).

Conclusion

I recommend the Lafay method from many points of view. Unfortunately, she does not put enough emphasis on theexecution and the feeling. From this perspective, the exercises would benefit from being performed more slowly.

By virtue of the results it offers (slimming, muscle gain, increased sports performance), it is primarily intended for a young audience and above all desiring pecs, chocolate bars and round buttocks.

What about the others? I recommend free bodybuilding to them!
