The Best Way to Wash and Launder a Yellowed Pillow.
Over time, the pillows turn yellow.
Why ? It's because of the sweating when we sleep.
Even when using a pillowcase, perspiration passes through and leaves a yellow stain on the pillow.
But if your pillow has turned yellow, no need to buy a new one!
Wondering how to wash yellowed pillows?
To bleach it and restore it to its original color, just use this washing method to achieve this result:
How to do
1. Check the pillow label to be sure you can machine wash it. Most allow it, except those with shape memory.
2. Fill the washing machine with 1/3 very hot water. You can even add a pot or two of boiling water.
3. Add a cup of washing powder.
4. Add a cup of bleach.
5. Add a cup of soda crystals.
6. Start the machine by choosing the hottest program. Let it run for a few minutes so that all the ingredients combine well.
7. Once the ingredients are well dissolved in the water, open the machine and add 2 pillows. It is better with 2 because the drum is thus better balanced during the spinning.
8. Close the machine and let it finish its wash cycle.
9. Choose the "plus rinse" option for the machine to perform a second rinse.
10. If the weather is nice, dry the pillows in the sun. It is more economical than the dryer and in addition the rays of the sun help to bleach the pillows.
Otherwise put the pillows in the dryer. If the pillow is down, choose the air dry option. If it is synthetic, choose a low temperature.
Results
There you go, your pillows are all clean and have regained their whiteness :-)
No more pillows yellowed by perspiration! You can do this washing once or twice a year.

As indicated Graziella Angela Formenti in comments, you can also soak the pillows in the tub with all the ingredients overnight. Then machine wash them the next day.
