Easy, fast and efficient, right?

Be aware that this trick not only works on white cotton laundry, but also on light colored laundry.

On the other hand, percarbonate of soda is not suitable for delicate fabrics, such as silk or cashmere.

Why does it work?

Found in many detergents, sodium percarbonate has powerful disinfectant and antibacterial properties.

Sold as a white crystallized powder, it is also a very good whitening agent.

On contact with water, sodium percarbonate breaks down into its two main constituents:

- soda crystals (also called sodium carbonate) are known to naturally remove stains from blood, tea, coffee, chocolate, red wine, fruit, fat, perspiration, carrot, tomato, lipstick, grass, soot and other organic stains.

- active oxygen (also called hydrogen peroxide) has powerful whitening properties.

Additional advice

- For blood stains: Wet the area with cold water instead of hot water.

- To revive the white: add 1 to 2 tablespoons of percarbonate of soda in the powder container of the washing machine.

- To sanitize and detach heavily soiled textiles (tea towels, garden clothes, etc.): before washing, soak textiles in hot water with 1 to 2 tablespoons of sodium percarbonate per liter. Rub the stains, let soak for 30 minutes and machine wash.

- To detach and purify washable diapers or washable menstrual protectors: before washing, soak the textiles in a bucket of hot water mixed with 2 to 4 tablespoons of sodium percarbonate. Leave on for a few hours and machine wash.

Where to buy sodium bicarbonate?

You can easily find percarbonate of soda in supermarkets, in the household department, near laundry products.

You can also find them here on the Internet.

Note: sodium percarbonate is harmless to the environment, but be aware that it can be irritating to the skin. Thus, it is therefore preferable to use household gloves to handle it.
