How To Make Homemade Plasticine Easily.
Plasticine is always a hit with children.
Here is an original idea that will delight them: homemade plasticine. It's simple, economical and fun.
A do-it-yourself plasticine recipe, original isn't it?
It's easy to do and my kids love to get their hands dirty.
Here is my homemade recipe for a non-toxic, soft and chewy dough.
Ingredients
- 135 g of flour (the equivalent of a mustard glass)
- ½ mustard glass of salt
- 1 mustard glass of hot water
- 1 teaspoon of cooking oil (sunflower for example)
- ½ mustard glass of cornflour
- food coloring (pastry section of your supermarket)
How to do
1. I mix the flour, cornstarch and salt in a bowl.
2. I dilute the coloring with hot water in a bowl.
3. I pour this colored water into my bowl and knead it well.
4. I add my two tablespoons of oil.
5. I put this paste in a saucepan and heat it over very low heat, stirring constantly. The dough is cooked when you have difficulty stirring it.
6. I let it cool a bit in order to knead it. Thus, it will keep all its elasticity.
Results
And there you have it, you made your own homemade plasticine :-)
One last little advice: let your dough dry for ½ day before keeping it in an airtight box.
You can repeat this preparation to obtain different colors of plasticine.
Savings made
Knowing that we all have flour, salt and edible oil in our kitchen cupboards, all I have to do is buy to make my homemade plasticine:
- 1 packet of cornstarch, around € 1.70 for 400 g (I'm only going to use 1/2 a glass)
- food coloring, I can find three different colors in the supermarket for € 2 for 18 g (4 to 5 drops are enough for my preparation).
Enough to make dozens and dozens of pots of homemade plasticine.
20 jars of "ready-to-use" plasticine bought in stores cost me an average of € 20.
So I save over 16 € from the first investment in raw materials.
