How Do You Know if the Fish is Fresh? My 4 Tips.
Fish is delicious, but it is better to eat it fresh.
Only here, it is not always easy to know its degree of freshness ...
Here are my 4 tips to guide you in this task which, in the end, is quite simple! Look :
1. The smell
The fish should smell of iodine and algae. If you smell ammonia rather than tide, it means it is lacking in freshness.
2. The eye
His eyes should be bright and clear. Well rounded, they occupy the entire orbit. The eye should not be dark and opaque. This would be proof that he was fished several days ago.
3. The gills
Lift its gills and you can see the color of its gills. These should be a nice red or pink color and still be damp. If they appear slimy with mucus, then run away!
4. The flesh
The fish should be shiny, firm and elastic to the touch. Press gently with your thumb and the fish is supposed to return to its original shape. Your imprint should not remain visible. Finally, no coloration should appear along the central ridge.
If these 4 criteria are validated, then do not hesitate to buy this beautiful fish. So you can choose the best fish for delicious meals.
Last little tips
To save money, buy your fish whole rather than fillet. Not only will you be able to ensure its freshness, but in addition you will save money because you will not pay for the work of the fishmonger.
Also, choose a fish shop where the ice is plentiful and clean. This is the first thing to check to ensure the quality of its products.
