My 3 Secrets To Keeping A Crunchy Lemon.

You only need half a lemon and you don't know what to do with the other half?

With us, we don't throw anything away, and here's how to store a cracked lemon.

In my recipe, I needed lemon juice. Well, just half.

It's all well and good, but I'm thrifty and it is out of the question to go and put this other half in the trash.

3 tips for storing 1 opened lemon

How to store half of a lemon?

Several solutions are possible so as not to spoil anything. Whether I want to make a recipe or remove the bad smells from the fridge, I always have half a lemon left on my arms.

Here are my 3 secrets to avoid having to put half of my lemons in the trash (what a sacrilege by the way!).

1. White vinegar

Definitely this white vinegar, it is used for everything. To soothe my sunburns from previous beach vacations, to soften my laundry or to calm that damn mosquito bite (that's what it's like to go on vacation to the edge of the swamps!).

To preserve your lemon half with vinegar, it's very simple. Just put a little bit of vinegar in a saucer. Then, I put the lemon face cut in the saucer filled with vinegar.

2. Fine salt

This is a second option that is just as easy to achieve. We know the benefits and harms of salt. It helps us to thoroughly clean our pots and our tub. Now it will also allow us to keep our lemon.

I put fine salt on the flesh part of the cut lemon so I can keep it longer. To use it, I just have to cut a thin slice of lemon to remove the salty part.

3. And water, quite simply

Finally, third solution and maybe the simple one, because it comes from the tap: flat water. Just fill a glass with water and immerse the lemon headcut down. Once submerged in water, it will last a few more days in perfect condition.

How long do our lemons keep?

It all depends on where I keep my lemons.

At room temperature, I can store my lemons for 1 to 2 weeks.

In the fridge, they keep 2-3 weeks. They can be preserved 3 months when they are immersed in a bowl of very cold water changed daily and left in the fridge.
