Shoes Too Small? 12 Tips To Make Them Easily Bigger.
Have you bought a pair of leather shoes that are too small?
It happens when you fall for the pair of shoes of your dreams, especially during the sales!
Now you have to find a solution to make your shoes too small or too narrow for your feet.
Fortunately, you don't have to leave your shoes in the closet or suffer all day.
Here are 12 simple and effective tips to make your shoes a little bigger, loosen up tight leather, and soften new shoes. Look :
1. Make your shoes
Nothing really revolutionary! But, it’s proven. The more you wear your shoes, the more they will be on your feet. And the less pain you will have.
At home, make the effort to put on a thick pair of socks and keep your shoes on, while they do a bit.
To be more effective, treat the leather to soften it with a good quality shoe polish. Be careful that the leather does not rub off on your socks!
2. Rubbing alcohol
If you have rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol), you're saved! You will be able to soften the leather of your shoes.
All you need to do is take a clean cloth and soak it in rubbing alcohol, then run the cloth over all of your shoes and let dry.
Once your shoes are dry, put them on, taking care to put on a large pair of socks. Does that still hurt you a bit? So, repeat the operation several times.
3. Glycerin
The process is the same, but with glycerin this time. With a clean cloth, pass a thin layer of glycerin on your shoes.
Then you have 2 possibilities. Either put on your shoes with a thick pair of socks.
Either you use a wooden shoe tree to widen them. I advise you to choose shoe trees that can be adjusted in length as well as in width thanks to screws and springs.
4. Castor oil
Very oily, castor oil will also help soften the leather. Put some on your hands and massage the leather of your shoes.
Once done, fill the inside of your shoe with newspaper. Use a lot to force the leather a little. Or, use a shoe tree.
This trick works great for softening leather, but the oil will tend to darken it a bit. It is best used on black or dark leather.
5. Vaseline
Just run several coats of petroleum jelly on your shoes and wait for it to dry.
Then you put on your biggest pair of socks and put on your shoes.
It might get stuck a bit, so you have to force it! Be careful, here too, the oil of petroleum jelly may darken the leather of your shoes. So do a test on a small, invisible part first.
6. Heat
Your hair dryer is going to be of great help in this trick.
To do this, take a shoe and direct the hot air from your hairdryer on the shoe.
When the leather is warm, put on your shoe or use a shoe tree to widen it. Do the same with the other foot.
Your shoes are now entitled to a good, nourishing shoe polish and will relax naturally.
7. Frozen water
Here it is the other way around. We use the cold to relax the leather of your shoes. And the freezer is your best friend.
To do this, start by taking waterproof bags and fill them with water. Close them tight and slip them into the stubborn shoes.
The bags should fill all the space inside your shoe. Now place your shoes in the freezer for 30 to 60 minutes.
The water in the bags should freeze completely. When freezing, the water bags will then put pressure on the walls of the shoes.
Last step, take your shoes out of the freezer. Put on your thick socks and slip your feet into your icy shoes, instead of bags. It's a bit cold! But quickly, the heat of your feet will heat up your shoes which will form on your feet. Check out the trick here.
8. Cold
This time, we're going to put our shoes directly in the freezer.
We slip them into a bag and put them in the freezer for 30 to 60 minutes.
This tip is ideal for strappy pumps or sneakers. Check out the trick here.
9. Damp rags
Dampen some rags and stuff the insides of the shoes with them. Your shoes will eventually get wet as well.
When it does, pull out your nice mountain socks and put on your shoes. Let them dry as well. You will see that they will squeeze you less.
10. Wet newspaper
As in the previous tip, we use moisture to make shoes that are too small. But there, we take newspaper.
Wet newspaper and put it in your shoes. When they are quite wet, put them on with your thick socks and wait for them to dry. Check out the trick here.
11. To widen the straps
When we have leather shoes with straps, which is common with pumps or sandals, it's not uncommon for the straps to hurt us. Especially when your feet swell from the heat.
To avoid this inconvenience, rub the straps with rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) and put on your shoes straight away.
12. To widen boots
It's not easy to find leather boots that are exactly your size. Often they are too narrow.
To make them wider at the foot or calf, put 1 or 2 pairs of socks on top of each other and put on a plastic bag.
This funny outfit will help you slide your foot into the boot. Walk like this for 5 min. When this time is up (this may seem like a long time to you), remove the bag and add another pair of socks.
And walk for another 5 minutes, even if it hurts a bit. After 5 minutes, take everything off and try on your boots: they will be much more comfortable!
