Paying iMessage: a little tip to know not to pay for your messages.

Do you use iMessage to communicate for free with your French and foreign friends?

You are quite right. But beware, there is still a trap!

You might be wondering if an iMessage is free or paid internationally?

Read this tip carefully so as not to be billed for your messages at the end of the month by your preferred operator ...

The problem: iMessages sent abroad

Funny imessage conversation in English

If, like me, you send iMessages abroad (USA, Canada, Germany, etc.), you risk being billed by your operator and having out of bundle.

Why ? Because if your correspondent does not have Wifi, 3G or Edge coverage when you send your iMessage, your iPhone will automatically send a classic SMS instead.

As a result, your operator (Orange, SFR, Bouygues but also B & You or Free) will be happy to bill you for the SMS at the end of the month. Nice, isn't it? Well ok not really ...

And a classic SMS sent to a foreign number is not cheap. For example, at Orange it costs € 0.28. If you send a hundred in the month, that's 28 € more on the invoice!

The solution: deactivate the "Send by SMS" function

Luckily, there's something you need to know to avoid drama at the end of the month.

A function is available in the settings of the iPhone to prevent a free iMessage from turning into a classic paid SMS.

How to do

Touch Settings> Messages> Deactivate "Send by SMS".

how to deactivate paid imessage function

And there you have it, with this option deactivated, you can rest easy. All your iMessages will remain free.

And since you have a receipt, you will know if your friend has received the message in question.

If it is an urgent message that was not sent by iMessage, know that you can still send it by classic SMS.

To do this, in the conversation, let press on the message in question and choose "Send by message".

Don't go to bed right away!
