Food Moths: How To Get Rid Of Them Definitely!
What could be more annoying than finding food moths in your storerooms?
It's the invasion in a short time throughout the pantry.
But that's no reason to use toxic products!
Especially in cupboards full of food ... I have made a commitment to only use natural, non-toxic tips to get rid of food moths.
Here are the methods I recommend to get rid of it, but also to prevent a new invasion.
1. Flush out food moths.
If you are in doubt, you should first inspect your entire pantry.
Food moths look like small, dark butterflies.
They tend to infest flours and grains. So check these packages first.
Also check dried fruits, candies, pet foods (such as croquettes).
Look for adult butterflies, larvae, and eggs, which can look like clumps of small grains like this:
2. Get rid of infested products
Throw out infested food. Put them in a trash can away from home.
3. Clean the cupboards
Thoroughly clean all the nooks and crannies of the cupboards.
Vacuum. Then pass a sponge of hot soapy water. Dry your cupboards well.
If there are any signs of an invasion, be sure to throw the garbage and vacuum bag outside, away from the house.
Clean food containers, and all surfaces with white vinegar.
For extra protection, use a few drops of essential oil like peppermint, lemongrass, eucalyptus, or tea tree.
4. Prevent new invasions
To prevent invasions, food should be stored in airtight glass, metal or plastic containers like these.
Your weapon: the laurel! It repels insects from the pantry.
Place bay leaves inside boxes and cabinets.
When you bring dry goods home, place them in a plastic bag in the freezer for a week to kill all the eggs. If you have room, you can use the freezer for long term storage.
