And there you have it, your homemade natural laundry with Lier is already ready :-)

Easy, efficient and economical!

You have made your homemade organic liquid laundry, without a thermomix. Sure, you won't find a cheaper price!

In addition, it is zero waste.

It is a great alternative to industrial detergents full of toxic and overpriced products.

To give you my opinion, I have been using this laundry daily for 2 years already!

And I can tell you that not only do I love it (and my whole family too) ...

... but that my wallet is happy with all the savings I make.

Conservation

Your ivy detergent keeps very well for 3 weeks in the dark.

Beyond that, ivy detergent loses its effectiveness.

But to keep it a few more days, you can keep it in your fridge.

You can even divide it into small containers and freeze it!

Use

The dosage is simple, like a classic laundry!

Just pour 15 cl of detergent into the "detergent" compartment of the washing machine.

All you have to do is run your machine as usual.

- If your laundry is very dirty, you can add 1 tablespoon of baking soda to the 15 cl of your laundry.

- If you want to bleach your white laundry, add 1 tablespoon of percarbonate of soda. Check out the trick here.

- If you have encrusted stains on your clothes, rub them with Marseille soap. In addition, you can let your laundry soak for 1 hour.

- You can also add a natural softener. This will allow your laundry to be very soft. To do this, pour 15 cl of white vinegar into the softening tank of your washing machine. Find out how to do it here.

- If you want to perfume your laundry, add 5 to 8 drops of essential oil of your choice. For example, lavender leaves a nice clean smell. But be careful not to overdo it. Because essential oils are very concentrated and can cause irritation or allergies. Do a test before putting it in your laundry.

Why does it work?

Ivy leaves contain 5 to 8% saponin. It is this active principle that protects them from parasites, fungi and microbes.

By crumpling the leaves, this substance is released and afterwards it mixes with water during maceration.

The liquid obtained absorbs the properties of saponin. It is stain remover, degreaser, sanitizer and foamy.

Suddenly, this ivy detergent is simply super effective: the laundry comes out very clean with a good smell!

What more could you ask for in laundry?

Express Ivy Laundry Recipe

You have no more ivy detergent on hand and you absolutely need to do laundry quickly?

No time to wait 24 hours for the leaves to macerate ... No need to panic!

Here's how to do an express ivy laundry:

- Collect 30 ivy leaves.

- Cut them into small pieces.

- Put them in a fabric bag or laundry net.

- Close the bag tightly and place directly in the drum of the machine in the middle of the soiled laundry.

- Start your machine at 30 ° minimum. But it is even more effective at 40 ° so that the saponins are released easily.

Super economical laundry

Ivy is a plant that grows very easily. We can therefore take a few leaves every month without problem.

It is of course completely free!

Suddenly, your laundry is really very economical.

It only costs 1 liter of water and a little energy to boil the water.

If you want to save even more money, you can collect rainwater or take water from a fountain.

So your laundry will cost you ... 1 cent per liter! In other words nothing at all ... Not bad isn't it?

Where to find ivy?

climbing ivy to make a homemade DIY natural laundry

Climbing ivy grows on walls or trees.

Be careful not to confuse it with ground-cover ivy that covers the earth.

Ivy grows very easily in the garden, in the streets or in forests. So you can easily find them while walking around.

In addition, nothing prevents you from asking friends or neighbors if you can pick some ivy leaves at their place.

You can also cut it or lay it down to grow it in your garden.

What to do with your ivy laundry?

Wash your laundry, of course, but not only!

This homemade detergent is also very effective for cleaning floors that are not fragile.

Its sanitizing and detergent properties easily remove stains from the floor.

It can also be used to wash your hair. But beware of sensitive skin!

As we have seen, ivy can cause irritation.

Additional advice

- Choose climbing ivy called Hedera Helix and not ground cover ivy.

- Do not dry the leaves. Use them right away to do your laundry.

- Check that the ivy is always well submerged in water throughout the recipe.

- Keep your laundry away from light.

Precautions and dangers

- If you have sensitive skin, don't forget to put on gloves before touching the leaves. This is because ivy leaves can be irritating. They secrete falcarinol, an alcohol that can cause redness, irritation and allergies.

- If you or someone in your family have very sensitive skin or have allergies often, or if you have a baby, start by testing with a detergent made with only 25 sheets.

And add 1 to 2 tablespoons of baking soda to keep its effectiveness. If there is less reaction, change the detergent.

- Ivy berries are poisonous: do not eat them!

- Store your liquid detergent out of the reach of children and pets. Consider putting a label on the jar or bottle. Even if it is natural, it should NEVER be swallowed.

- The saponin found in ivy can be toxic. If you put a large concentration in the water, it can be harmful to aquatic fauna.

But, no need to worry: given the quantity used in each detergent, there is no danger for the environment. And anyway, it is much less harmful than industrial laundry.

In addition, it is 100% biodegradable. The saponin disappears very quickly in the pipes without any treatment. Of course, it should not be thrown directly and in large quantities into a river!
