Do not throw away your tea bags anymore! 10 Good Reasons To Plant Them In The Garden.
Nothing could be more relaxing than ending your day sipping on a good hot herbal tea.
It is a soothing ritual, even in summer when it is hotter.
But after the tea is finished, most people throw the teabag in the trash without thinking.
After all, what could one do with a used tea bag?
Well a number of things and especially in the garden!
here is 10 good reasons to bury your tea bags in the soil instead of throwing them in the trash. Look :
1. Tea bags break down in the earth
Did you know that most tea bags are made from the abaca, a variety of banana? More specifically, the fiber from the stems of abaca leaves is used to make Manila hemp. The bag will therefore decompose easily and quickly. As for the small plastic used to seal the tea bags, it disappears within six months.
2. The tea adds fertilizer to the soil
Yep, by planting the tea in the soil it adds nutrients to the soil. Indeed, its leaves contain tannic acid and nutrients which are a natural fertilizer for your flowers. As the leaves decompose slowly, they gradually release these nutrients into the soil, which helps your plants to grow.
3. It reduces waste
Whether you put your bags on the compost heap or bury them in the garden, there is always less waste in the trash!
4. Tea bags keep insects out of the garden
Used tea bags (just like coffee grounds for that matter) repel insects from your plants. Indeed, the very special smell of tea bags deters pests from eating your flowers and vegetables. Convenient, isn't it?
5. The smell of tea also repels cats
Sprinkle coffee grounds or brewed tea around your garden to keep Felix from urinating on your favorite plants. You can also put it all around your houseplants so it won't chew on them.
6. Tea bags allow you to grow seeds
Believe it or not, your old tea bags can be used as a substrate to create a mini germinator. To do this, simply insert the seed of the plant in an old tea bag, which you have made a small slit on the side. Once the seed is in the bag, put the bag in a peat pot and moisten until the seed germinates and is ready to be transplanted.
7. Tea bags speed up composting
If you add used tea bags to the compost bin, the acid in the tea will speed up the compost decomposition process. As a result, you will be able to use this compost more quickly.
8. Earthworms love tea leaves.
Not only are the worms safe to consume the tea leaves, they love it too! Once they digest the leaves, they produce nutrient-dense droppings. This makes the soil healthier and stimulates the growth of plants.
9. Tea bags help retain water
Bury your tea bags near the roots of your plants, flowers or vegetables. Why ? Because it retains more water and keeps humidity close to the plants when they need it. If you do this, you will see, your plants will stay in great shape for longer.
10. Tea leaves stimulate rose bushes
The tannic acid contained in the tea leaves stimulates the flowering of roses. It seems that they are very fond of it to produce more beautiful and larger flowers. Put your old tea bags in the soil around the rose bush. By watering them, the nutrients in the tea will diffuse into the soil. And this is also true with banana peels!
