Eh yes ! Frozen foods (or foods that you freeze yourself) also have a limited lifespan.
Otherwise you risk a good food poisoning !
Hence the importance of making a note of the date on which you have frozen them on the various products.
So how long can we keep food in the freezer ? The answer in picture in our summary table:
Summary
- Bread and baguettes: 1 month.
- Pie shell, cake dough, pastries: 2 months.
- Minced meat: 2-3 months.
- Cake (cut into individual pieces): 3 months.
- Grated cheese and butter: 3 months.
- Fish fillets and shellfish: 3 to 4 months.
- Leftover cooked meals, soup, sauce: 3 to 4 months.
- Chicken fillets or drumsticks: 6 months.
- Pork, lamb or veal: 6 to 8 months.
- Beef, game and poultry: 8 months.
- Fruits & vegetables (washed / dried or blanched) : 10 to 12 months.
These indicative dates are based on freezing in individual, airtight packaging.
List of products not to be frozen
To avoid bad experiences, know that some products do not withstand freezing well:
- Milk, yogurts, creams and other dairy products such as cheese.
- Raw tomatoes, cucumber, salad.
