5 Tips For Drying Indoor Laundry A LOT FASTER.
The tumble dryer is one of the most power-hungry appliances.
On average, we spend several hundred euros per year just to dry clothes.
In addition, the dryer damages clothes. The proof, all those fluff of fabric that we must regularly remove from the filter.
Not to mention the fact that a clothes dryer dramatically increases the level of dust in the house and is often the cause of fires.
The solution ? Use an indoor clothes rack to dry your clothes free and also extend the life of your clothes.
And thanks to these 5 tips, your clothes will be dry in just a few hours. Look :
1. Start your machines in the morning so that clothes have all day to dry.
Drying clothes at night works well, but it's still much more effective during the day.
Why ? Because heat and light speed up the drying of your clothes.
To do this, start a machine as soon as you wake up (or the night before), and put your things down just before leaving for work.
When you come home from work, most of your clothes will be dry and ready to be put away.
2. Space your clothes well on the drying rack
Make sure there is space between your clothes when they are hanging out.
Why ? This is super important for the air to circulate well and the clothes to dry quickly.
If they touch each other, air cannot circulate between the clothes. As a result, the moisture remains trapped and your clothes do not dry out.
For thicker fabrics like jeans and towels, place them astride two bars of the rack so that the two sides do not touch each other.
For those finer, one bar is usually sufficient.
3. Dry your clothes on hangers to save time.
For delicate clothes and to avoid leaving bar marks on them, hang them on hangers like these that let air through.
This is good advice my grandmother gave me a few years ago.
As anyway, the clothes will end up hanging on hangers, as much as they are already drying on them to save time.
Hang the hangers on the drying rack, on the edges of the dryer, or why not on a piece of furniture or a door.
Once dry, all you need to do is store the hangers in the closet. Easy, fast and convenient, isn't it?
Yes, you don't even need to iron it because drying clothes on a hanger is often enough so that they don't get wrinkled.
If you are a handyman, you can also make your own hangers spaced to let air pass by following this tutorial.
4. Place the clothes line where the air circulates and where there is sunlight.
Place the dryer in the sunniest and most ventilated part of the house.
There is no point in hanging clothes in a damp basement other than increasing the drying time.
Better to place the dryer on the balcony or next to an open window.
If you do not have access to a balcony, place the clothes horse in the most ventilated and largest room.
5. Turn clothes regularly
To speed up the drying of clothes, nothing is more effective than turning them as often as possible.
It is also the best way to prevent them from smelling musty due to lack of air.
Especially for thicker clothes like jeans.
Besides, you can also put your clothes inside out while drying.
Why ? Because it exposes the other side to the air and allows the clothes to dry much faster.
It may seem trivial like that, but give it a try and you will see that it saves a lot of drying time!
What is the best clothes horse?
A clothes horse is going to save you a ton of money, making it one of the best investments.
But not all clotheslines are created equal. Trust me, I've been using it for 10 years!
After having tested a bundle of clotheslines, here is the one I use and that I recommend because you can put plenty of laundry in it in a minimum of space:
Additional advice
Depending on the region where you live, the drying time will be longer or shorter. If you live in a rainy area, you may want to consider using a portable or electric dehumidifier indoors.
This device does not consume much electricity and at the same time can help you get rid of humidity and mold in the house.
I advise you to put the dryer near the oven when it is running. The heat released will speed up drying. Or even better near a radiator. Be careful not to put your clothes on though!
Always hang out your clothes tightly, so they will dry properly and save you time on ironing.
