And There you go ! Thanks to this trick, you now know if your soil is calcareous or acidic :-)

Easy, fast and economical isn't it?

Depending on the acidity of your soil, you will not plant the same varieties in your vegetable garden.

Yes, each vegetable has its preferences in terms of acidity!

To find out more precisely what the pH of your soil is, you can also get a pH tester like this one.

Why does it work?

White vinegar is a natural product that reacts with lime.

It detects if the soil in your vegetable garden contains it and in what quantity. The more it sparkles, the more calcareous the soil!

As for bicarbonate, it is a product which reacts when it comes into contact with an acidic product.

If the soil in your vegetable garden sparkles on contact, it is because it is acidic. The more it sparkles, the more acidic it is!

What fruits and vegetables to plant if the soil is alkaline?

If the white vinegar test found that you have alkaline soil, here are the fruits and vegetables that will be easier to grow:

- cabbage, Brussels sprouts

- turnips

- radish

- beets

- eggplants

- peas

- some tomatoes

- onions

- vine

What fruits and vegetables to plant if the soil is acidic?

If the baking soda test found you have acidic soil, here are the fruits and vegetables that will be easier to grow:

- blueberries

- pickles

- zucchini

- squash

- spinach

- peppers

- potatoes

- tomatoes
