Endives with Ham Gratinated, a Simple and Cheap Recipe!

Here is a recipe that we don't always think of cooking.

And yet it is not only delicious, but also very economical.

The endives with ham gratin, a classic of my everyday cooking, are a dish that I particularly like.

An easy to cook, inexpensive recipe that I love to prepare!

Endive with ham gratin recipe

Preperation : 30 mins

Cooking: 15 min

Difficulty : easy

Budget per person: 0,96 €

Ingredients for 4 persons

- 4 slices of ham

- 4 beautiful endives

- 100 g of grated cheese

- 50 cl of milk

- 100 g of butter

- 2 tablespoons of flour

- Salt pepper

How to do

1. I remove the outer, possibly wilted leaves of the endive and cut the hard cones with a knife.

2. I then cook them in a large pot of boiling salted water for 20 minutes.

3. During this time, I prepare my bechamel sauce. Nothing could be simpler, you just have to follow my preparation instructions in this article. I add half the grated Gruyere cheese to my sauce.

4. I preheat my oven to 180 °.

5. I drain the endives and gently press them to remove the cooking water.

6. I butter a baking dish, wrap each endive in a slice of ham and arrange them in the dish.

7. I coat them with the béchamel sauce and sprinkle them with the remaining grated cheese.

8. I put the dish in the oven and let it brown for 20 minutes.

Easy and fast, isn't it? It's the perfect dish to make on a weekday evening.

Tip: how to reduce the bitterness of Endives?

In order to remove this little bitter taste from the endives, wash them under a trickle of cold water but do not let them soak, then add a little lemon juice to the cooking water.

- 4 slices of ham: 180 g at € 9.56 per kilo or € 1.72

- 4 beautiful endives: around 600 g at € 1.80 per kilo or € 1.08

- 100 g of grated cheese: at 6.74 € per kilo, i.e. 0.67 €

- 50 cl of milk: at € 0.71 per liter or € 0.35

- 2 tablespoons of flour: 30 g at € 0.95 per kilo or € 0.03

An addition of € 0.96 per person or € 3.85 for 4 guests.

Endives au gratin with ham are a family dish that I cook very often. Inexpensive and easy to prepare, it would be a shame to go without!
