7 Uses of Onion Skin.

Did you know that it is possible to use the skin of onions, instead of throwing it in the trash?

It sounds incredible, but it's true.

Over 500,000 tonnes of waste onions are thrown away in Europe every year. Such a waste !

Instead of throwing them away, it is possible to reuse them. And it's very easy and useful, the proof:

1. Use the onion skin in the soup

The skin is as nutritious as the bulb of the onion.

It's full of fiber and phenolic compounds that help prevent coronary heart disease.

2. Use onion skin as a dye for wool

3. Use onion skin for cramps

Do you have leg cramps? The skin of the onions might help.

The recipe: boil the onion skins in water for 10 to 20 minutes, to make an infusion. Drain to remove the skins from the water and drink the water like tea before bed.

Allow 1 to 2 weeks for the effect to be felt fully.

4. Use the onion skin in the compost heap

Stop throwing onion skins in the trash.

Instead, put them directly in the compost bin.

5. Use onion peel as a hair dye

Here is the recipe for getting beautiful copper highlights for those with dark hair:

Pour 1 liter of cold spring (or demineralized) water over 4 handfuls of onion peels. Bring to the boil then let boil for 5 min. Cover and let steep off the heat until cool. Filter and use in rinsing water, to be renewed regularly.
