How To Clean Your Mattress In Just 3 Quick And Easy Steps.

Do you know this amazing trick ?! Every night we sweat the equivalent of 250 ml of water !

Or about half a glass of water. Crazy, isn't it?

We then understand why ugly yellow spots appear on the mattress!

As we spend 1/3 of our life lying down, cleaning your mattress should therefore be a regular household chore.

Unfortunately, this is far from the case! It is rare for people who think about cleaning their mattresses ...

However, it is really not very clean! A mattress is full of dirt, dust and mites ...

And since there's only one small fitted sheet that separates your body from all of that, it's better to have a clean mattress, right ?!

So I know a super effective trick that should interest you.

Here's how to deep clean your mattress in just 3 quick and easy steps. Look :

1. Vacuum the mattress

Vacuum the mattress to remove dust and dirt

This step is important because it removes dirt, dust and dead skin that lodges on your mattress.

But before vacuuming, don't forget to make sure your vacuum cleaner brush is clean.

It would be a shame to make your mattress more dirty trying to clean it! ;-)

This suction must be done at least once a quarter and when you turn your double-sided mattress.

2. Deodorize your mattress

Use baking soda to easily deodorize the mattress

With the sweat that we produce at night, the dust and other dirt, your mattress can start to have an unpleasant smell ...

To easily refresh it, just sprinkle it with baking soda.

The easiest way is to fill a colander like this with baking soda and then pat it over the mattress.

After sprinkling the bed with baking soda, leave to act for at least 30 minutes.

When the time is up, vacuum the mattress to remove all the baking soda.

Bicarbonate is a powerful natural deodorant that will neutralize all bad odors on the mattress.

However, this dry cleaning step will not remove stains from your mattress.

If you like essential oils, you can also add 5 drops of lavender essential oil to the baking soda to give your mattress a pleasant scent.

3. Remove stains from the mattress

How to make a homemade stain remover to remove mattress stains

The most common stains on a mattress are blood, sweat, vomit, urine, and even seminal fluid.

Not very tasty, I know ...

Know that the faster you act, the easier it is to remove this type of stain from the mattress.

If you wait too long, you may not be able to make them go away.

The most effective way to remove this type of stain is to use a mixture of salt, baking soda and water in equal parts.

Rub the stain with this mixture and leave it on for 30 minutes.

When the time is up, brush over the stain.

Finally, use a damp cloth to remove residue and allow the mattress to dry completely.

To avoid spreading the stain, avoid making circles when you rub. Instead, press hard on it.

Remember that the heat "cooks" the stains. So always use cold water for this type of operation.

If the stain is stubborn, you can use an even more effective homemade stain remover that consists of mixing 2 parts hydrogen peroxide and 1 part dishwashing liquid.

Apply 1 drop of this mixture to the stain and scrub with an old toothbrush. Leave on for 5 minutes then wipe it with a damp cloth.

Extra tips

- remember to turn your mattress at each change of season. Why ? This prevents it from wearing out more on one side than the other and this allows it to gain in "lifespan". Especially if your partner is not the same weight as you: this will prevent one side from being more sunken than the other.

- if you spill water on the mattress, use a dry cloth and press as hard as possible to remove the water. Next, use a fan to dry it completely. Never sleep on a mattress that is not completely dry.

- if you have bed fleas in the mattress, read our tip here to get rid of it quickly.

- if you don't want to stain your beautiful and expensive mattress, you can invest in a mattress protector like this one. It's much easier to remove a mattress pad from the bed and wash it hot in the machine than to try to remove stains from it.
