1. Bicarbonate + black soap
Always wait for the grill to cool down after using your barbecue. Put 1/2 liter of hot water in a container. Add 2 tablespoons of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of black soap. Mix everything. Using a sponge soaked in your homemade product, clean your grill. Rinse with clean water and dry well with a clean cloth. Check out the trick here.
2. White vinegar + Bicarbonate
Another option is to use white vinegar. Combined with the baking soda, not only do you get a good stripper, but you also get a great disinfectant. To do this, put a tablespoon of baking soda in a cup. Put on your cleaning gloves and prepare a washing-up brush. Then pour a little vinegar on the baking soda. It will foam! Now is the time to dip your brush in your gas mixture and scrub the grill with it. Finally, rinse it with clean water and dry it.
3. Steel or brass brush
There are special steel or brass brushes for cleaning barbecue grills. The advantage is that their bristles are very hard and strip away any burnt dirt stuck on the grill. To do this, put your cooled grill on sheets of newspaper. Then scrub with the brush. Then, with a sponge, wash the grid with water in which you have put a few drops of washing up liquid. Rinse well with clean water and pat dry.
4. Use heat
The heat is very effective in disinfecting and cleaning the barbecue grill. When you are done cooking your food, leave the grill on the barbecue until the embers go out. Burning the residue on the grate will produce a lot of smoke. If your neighbors are there, it is better to avoid ... Anyway, the grease stuck to the grid will be quickly charred. At this point, the smoke will stop coming out of the barbecue. Being careful not to burn yourself, scrub the grill with a stainless steel or brass brush. Wait a little while your grill is lukewarm. Then take a cloth that you have poured oil on. Pass it on the grid. All you have to do is wash your grill in soapy water to remove the last residues. Rinse it and dry it well.
5. Soda crystals
To use this technique for cleaning your barbecue, you must wear household gloves. Once it's done, put a tablespoon of soda crystals in a container. Pour a cup of hot water over it. Mix. Soak a sponge in this homemade cleaner and clean the grill. Check out the trick here.
6. Hot water
If you've left the barbecue grill to cool with meat and grease residue stuck on it, this technique will save you from having to scratch like crazy! Heat some water and pour it into a basin. Then all you have to do is soak the grid for at least 1 hour in the basin. The dirt will soften and you can easily loosen it with a wooden spatula. To finish the cleaning, you can then use tip # 1 with baking soda and black soap.
7. Hot water + Dishwashing liquid + Lemon juice
If your grill is very dirty, you may be worried that this trick is not working enough. In this case, proceed in the same way as above. But add a little washing-up liquid and the juice of a squeezed lemon to the hot water. All you have to do is remove the dirt with a sponge and rinse your grill with water.
8. Edible oil
Like water, the oil will have the power to soften the burnt residue: it will come off much more easily. To do this, take a few paper towel leaves and make a ball. Pour cooking oil over them to soak them. Spread the paper towel balls on the grid. Get a wooden spatula. Place the paper towel ball on the grid and rub it gently, holding it with the spatula.
9. Dishwasher
It is the least tiring solution! If your dishwasher is large (or your barbecue grill small), you can put the grill in the dishwasher. This trick only works if your grill is not too dirty.
For rusty barbecue grills
Is your barbecue grill rusty? Do not worry. There are simple solutions to get it back. It will be like new! Look :

11. Onion
If you don't have a lime on hand, maybe you have an onion? In this case, cut it in half. Rub the rust stains with the cut part of the onion. Then, always the same, wash your grill with soap and water. Rinse it well and dry it.

When grilling fish, for example, the grill tends to retain a bad smell. Not great, if you grill meat afterwards ... Fortunately, here are 2 tips to get rid of bad smells:
13. Vinegar water
Always finish by rinsing your grill with vinegar water. This prevents the odors of cleaning products from becoming encrusted when cooking your merguez. No more bad smells the next time you grill something.
14. Lemon
If a lingering fishy smell gets stuck on your grill, just take half a lemon and rub it gently on the grill. Then moisten a paper towel sheet. Pass it on the grill to remove the lemon. And finish by wiping it off with a cloth.
Additional advice
- Even if you like rare meat, it is better to cook your meats well. This type of cooking kills all bacteria. This will prevent serious illnesses such as gastroenteritis linked to E. coli, also known as hamburger disease, or salmonellosis.
- Metal brushes can be very handy for cleaning your grill. On the other hand, by dint of using them, metal hairs may remain clinging to the grid. They will then come and contaminate your meat. Not great to eat! So be careful when using it. And remember to change your brush regularly, as soon as you notice it starts to deteriorate.
- To prevent your grill from getting dirty or wearing out too quickly, there is a simple little trick. Before cooking your food, pour a little cooking oil on paper towels. Spread these oil-soaked paper towels on the wire rack. The grid is well oiled and your food will stick less. In addition, it will be protected from rust.
