The Tip for Preserving Bread Approved by my Baker.
Fresh bread every day, going to the bakery once a week. An impossible bet? Not so sure with this unstoppable trickā¦.
Stale bread is great for chickens. But personally, on a table, I'm not a big fan.
I much prefer a crispy baguette ... Yet I'm not the type to go down to the bakery every morning.
For a long time, I was content to offer my husband rusks when neither he nor I had the courage to go downstairs to buy fresh bread.
And then one day, I had a revelation: if you freeze just about every dish you can imagine, why not the bread ?!
1. Two freezing techniquesbread
Every time I buy bread, I cut the baguettes in half, and freezes as is. Do not store it in the fridge, it is toxic.
Sometimes I even buy them by 10. I keep one for the day and freeze all the others. This avoids having to go back to the bakery every day.
According to my baker, the two rules for having good frozen bread are: quality and traditional bread and still fresh bread. I now understand the interest of taking advantage of offers 3 baguettes bought, one free from your baker when you are only 3 at home.
2. Three techniques for defrosting bread
Are you now wondering how to thaw bread? Easy !
When I want to eat my bread, I take out the frozen piece, run it under a stream of water and put it in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Great tip for defrosting a baguette quickly in the microwave! Just let it cool for a few minutes before using it as fresh bread. And I guarantee you that the taste is great !
My mother suggested to me the traditional oven technique which prevents the bread from softening like in the microwave. She removes her bread from the freezer 30 minutes before and reheats it in the oven for about 5 minutes for a warm and crispy bread every time. This is arguably the best way to thaw frozen baguette.
Another cool trick to thawing a baguette is to anticipate and take out your bread in the morning for noon or the day before for the next morning. Defrosting at room temperature keeps bread as fresh as possible.
