Cheap and Easy to Make! The Recipe for Homemade Hair Gel.
Here is a hair gel recipe super easy to do it yourself.
This gel is nontoxic and natural! It is cheap and it works beyond my expectations!
For this you only need 2 ingredients. A third can be added as an option.
We have quite a few recipes for hair on this site to make yourself, especially for making homemade shampoos.
But until now, I had yet to find a hair gel that works with my curls.
Previously I had my favorite brands of gel that I have always loved and used. But recently, I noticed that with each use I had eczema attacks on my hands ...
Normal! While doing research, I realized that these gels sold in supermarkets contain a lot of toxic products. Yuck!
So I tried a lot of natural recipes! But none of them worked well for me. The flaxseed hair gel was sticking to my hair and after a week it was worse than plaster!
I also tried shea butter, coconut oil, the combination of the two, aloe vera, glycerin ... I have probably tried everything!
I had almost given up on finding one that worked. Until I stumbled upon this natural recipe. She only uses gelatin and water. What could be better than these 2 very simple ingredients?
Why do I love this homemade gel?
• It is not expensive to make. It only costs a few cents per jar. There are 96 teaspoons of product in this box of gelatin, and we only use 1 per jar. Your investment for this gelatin box is therefore very profitable!
• It smells good. The essential oils I use are lavender and peppermint, or orange and rosemary. I smell it all day and it's great.
• It is easy to do.
• It is completely natural and safe for health.
Funny tip: my mom told me that synchronized swimmers in the fifties used gelatin so that their hairstyles wouldn't budge! Not bad is not it ?
A gel with 3 levels of hold
Normally my hair needs a lot of styling cream because it is dry and unruly (very thick, dense and very frizzy).
When I made my gel for the first time, I was surprised at its light structure which held well on my hair. I found that medium strength was enough for me.
And for my hair, it lasted for several days.
The strong hold is really too strong and a little cardboard for my taste.
I find mine a bit sticky when drying, but pliable once it's totally dry.
What you need
- food gelatin
- a cup of hot water
- 10 drops of essential oil of your choice
- a 250 ml glass jar or a spray bottle
- for an outfit soft, use 1/2 teaspoon of gelatin
- for an outfit mean : use 3/4 teaspoon of gelatin
- for an outfit strong : use 1 teaspoon of gelatin
- optional: you can add a little vegetable glycerin or aloe vera gel to accentuate the moist and supple aspect to spread
How to do
1. Pour the hot water into the 250 ml container (especially not plastic, because it's too hot for now!).
2. Add the necessary gelatin depending on the outfit you want.
3. Mix well.
4. Place the mixture in the fridge for 3/4 hours.
5. Add the essential oils once the mixture has cooled.
6. Stir.

And there you have it, you have made your natural gel with only 2 ingredients :-)
Easy, isn't it? It's still better than putting toxic products in your hair, right?
You can keep this homemade gel in the refrigerator for 2 weeks easily. For my part, I find it easier to use with a spray bottle, otherwise it gets everywhere.
