Economical, My Onion Soup Recipe at Less than € 0.50 per Person.

A great classic of French cuisine, my onion soup recipe is ideal for chilly evenings and the aftermath of a party.

It is particularly recommended for losing any extra pounds ...

But also to lighten your shopping bill!

Gratinated with cheese, it only gets better ...

Preparation: 5 min - Cooking: 45 min

Difficulty: Easy - Budget per person: 0.41 €

Ingredients for 4 persons

- 5 onions

- 15 g of flour

- 100 g of grated cheese (Gruyère)

- 30 g of butter

- 1 liter of water

- Salt and pepper

How to do

1. I peel and finely chop the onions.

2. In a saucepan, I bring 1 liter of water to a boil.

3. I melt the butter over low heat in a large saucepan then add the onions.

4. I stir regularly for 10 minutes always over low heat (the onions should become translucent).

5. I then add the flour and mix.

6. I pour the contents of a ladle of boiling water into my preparation, whisk then stir in the rest of the boiling water.

7. I salt and pepper and simmer over medium heat for 15 min.

8. I preheat the oven to 180 °.

9. I pour the soup into 4 ovenproof bowls and arrange a slice of toast (toaster or oven) on each.

10. I sprinkle with grated cheese and leave to brown for 10 min.

Results

There you go, my onion soup is already ready :-)

All you have to do is serve as soon as it comes out of the oven! This is the ideal recipe in the middle of winter.

It's simple, good and economical.

Bonus tip

There are several variations of this traditional recipe.

You can replace the water with chicken broth if you wish, and flavor the soup with thyme and a bay leaf.

Budget

- 5 onions: around 500 g at € 1.85 per kilo or € 0.93

- 15 g of flour: at 1.50 € per kilo, i.e. 0.02 €

- 100 g of grated cheese (Gruyère): at € 6.90 per kilo, i.e. € 0.69

That is a cost of 0.41 € per person or even € 1.64 for 4 people.
