3 GREAT Tips To Save Money on Swiffer Wipes.
If you live in a house or have pets, surely you are familiar with Swiffer dusters.
You know those disposable brooms and wipes that catch dirt and dust around the house.
If you use this system to clean your home then you surely know how expensive it is to replace disposable wipes, dusters and other dust catchers.
It is true that this system is very practical but it is also a financial abyss (not to mention the ecological disaster that this entails). Calculate how much it costs you over the year and your wallet will hurt ...
The good news is that we have found a solution for you. We've picked out the best Swiffer tips to save you money. Look :
1. The Swiffer sock trick
This tip is not only a cheaper alternative, but it's also a great way to avoid having to throw away the wipes after each use. All you need is a pair of chunky winter socks, like this one:
For just € 3 you can buy a pair of winter socks and use them as a "wipe" to clean your house. As well as being comfortable to wear, they also work great for catching dust and dirt around the house.
You place the sock over the Swiffer broom and then that's it!
Look at all the dust and dirt picked up!
The great thing is that after sweeping the floor you can easily take the sock off and put it in the washing machine. On the other hand, do not use fabric softener as this can reduce its effectiveness in collecting dust.
And there you have it, you now have an endless supply of wipes to clean the floor and all this for only 3 €!
You can reuse this sock as many times as you want instead of throwing the wipes in the trash after each use ... It's still more economical and environmentally friendly, right?
2. The homemade Swiffer refill recipe
Do you prefer the Swiffer Wet Jet broom rather than the classic Swiffer broom? So here is a tip that will save you money.
How? 'Or' What ? By reusing an old empty bottle and making your own homemade refill.
All that needs to be done is a hole in the bottom of the Wet Jet refill. Then, pour in this homemade recipe consisting of 50% water, 50% white vinegar and 2 or 3 drops of dishwashing liquid.
It is still much more economical and ecological. In addition, you avoid chemicals because at least now you know what's inside the bottle ...
3. The homemade Swiffer feather duster
It's crazy how dust can accumulate in the house, in just 1 week! If, you are used to pulling out your Swiffer duster to make it disappear, this tip should appeal to you.
Instead of always having to buy expensive disposable feather duster refills, make your own feather duster! Here's how :
First, cut 4 pieces of fleece fabric, observing the following measurements: 11 cm by 18 cm. For the fabric, you can use the bottom of an old pajama that you no longer put on as is the case here.
In case you were wondering where these measurements came from, this is roughly the size of a Swiffer duster. The pieces of fabric should have a rectangular shape as below.
Then take 2 cut pieces and place them one above the other on the "wrong side" as below. It is sometimes difficult to tell the "good" from the "bad" side of a fleece fabric, but here it is quite simple.
Save the other 2 pieces for later.
Now place these 2 pieces of fabric vertically on the sewing machine. Sew a line in the middle, leaving a margin at the top and bottom of 1.5 cm.
Now, about 2cm from the row you just sewn, sew a parallel row to the left and another to the right. You should now have 3 parallel lines spaced approximately 2 cm apart.
Then, use a pair of scissors to cut fringes along the 2 outer lines, every 1 cm or so. Be careful not to cut the seam lines you just sewn.
Now take the 2 pieces you had set aside and put one piece on a flat surface with the "wrong side" visible.
Then place the 2 sewn pieces on top. Then place the last piece on top with the "good side" visible.
At the end you should have the 2 pieces sewn together sandwiched between the other 2 unstitched pieces.
With the sewing machine, sew a line down the middle of these 4 pieces. Remember to leave a margin at the top and bottom about 1.5 cm from the edge.
After sewing this line, cut the sides of the top 2 pieces, spacing them about 1 cm apart. Be careful not to cut the previously sewn lines. Cut the top piece first and then the bottom piece to avoid cutting the sewn lines in the middle pieces.
Finally, all you have to do is insert your Swiffer feather duster handle between the 2 pieces of fabric located in the middle to get a superb homemade dusting duster, washable and reusable!
This trick works with fleece, but you can also use microfiber. The advantage of these 2 fabrics is that they easily catch dust and animal hair.
